RULES FOR COMPETITION  

 

1.  Any person attending the National Seminar is entitled to enter pieces into the competition. This includes visitors who are attending as delegates. There are 7 categories in the competition  

1     Under 19s. 

2     Novice. 

3     Spindle. 

4     Segmented. 

5     Open. 

6     Professional.(see rule 7) 

7     Artistic. 

  

  1. A total of 3 items per person is permitted with a maximum of 2 in any one category. e.g. two pieces in the open and one piece in the segmented. This rule does not apply to the under 19s:- 3 pieces will be accepted in this category. 

 

  1. This competition is a woodturning competition, but the use of colour, texture, metals, gilts is accepted as part of the competition. The use of Ivory is permitted provided that it does not break the world ban on new Ivory.  

 

  1. Winning pieces from previous IWG National Seminar/s will not be permitted. 

 

  1. IWG members who cannot attend and wish to submit pieces can do so at a cost of €10 per piece. This is to accommodate person’s who have prepared pieces for competition and can not attend due to unforeseen circumstances. No fee will apply to the under 19s. 

 

  1. It is the responsibility of all entrants to collect their pieces before the Seminar closes. The Executive Committee of the IWG will not be responsible for items not collected. 

 

  1. For this year 2009 a separate competition and display area will be set up for professional turners and demonstrators. It is up to the entrant to define whether he/she is a professional. This is for a trial purpose only and will be reviewed on a yearly basis. Entrants in this category are excluded from all other categories.  

 

  1. The Executive Committee will select 3 judges from the list of demonstrators to judge the competition. 

 

  1.  Any IWG member who may have a grievance with competition, or any other problem should bring it to the attention of a member of the Executive Committee and we will make every effort to resolve the issue. No member of the IWG should approach a judge/s with a grievance on any decision made by them. This could result in immediate disqualification
