Summer Camps at Joe Laird Woodturning

Joe Laird's Summer camps for youths are designed for children between the age of 12 and 19 years. This is a fantastic opportunity for younger people to be introduced to the ancient craft of wood turning.

The course will consist of five three hour classes over a period of five days. The class size is limited to five students per class... so early booking is advisable.

Mastercrafter - new RTÉ TV series and opportunity for amateur crafts people

Big Mountain Productions are working with the Craft Council of Ireland on a new series for RTÉ that will crown one amateur craftsperson, the Mastercrafter of 2011.

There are six shows in the series. The first five shows will place fifteen apprentices on an intensive two-week residential course in the discipline of their choice: Ceramics, Glass, Metal (blacksmithing), Textiles (weaving) or Wood (wood turning)) under the expert guidance of the relevant Master of Craft.

A judging panel will adjudicate reducing fifteen apprentices down to five allowing just one apprentice from each discipline to take a place in the final five.

Show six the grand finale will be recorded in Dublin on 26th & 27th July with the winner of Mastercrafter of 2011 announced later that afternoon.

Bloom in the Park 2011

The IWG will be demonstrating the craft of Woodturning again this year at Blooms weekend, in the phoenix park from june 2nd till june 6th.

The theme this year is based on gardens so we are asked to turn projects that would be found, or used in the garden. ( Dibbers, Tool handles, Tampers, Paper Potters etc )  If you can demonstrate of talk about the craft of wood turning on any of these days then we would like to have you with us to help promote our craft.

This is a voluntary event but we can guarantee that it is great fun for those visiting and taking part.
We need 3 demonstrators for each day so please contact me ( Joe Laird ) before thursday may 12th if you have an interest in helping out. We will take names on a first come basics only and this is open to all IWG members.
